  • NO Hepatitis B immunization = Full immunization series
  • NO boosters advised by CDC IF last series is 10 years or older
  • Exposure: If the firefighter who has been previously immunized has an exposure to a patient who is high risk for Hepatitis B (and is antigen positive)

  • Test firefighter for hepatitis B antibody.
  • IF negative:
  • INITIATE REVACCINATION WITH HEPATITIS B: Two Options
    1. 1. An option is to give one dose of hepatitis B and offer retesting of blood to see if their antibodies reach a sufficient level
    2. 2. Another option is to give them 3 additional hepatitis B immunizations
  • Physicals: firefighter is hepatitis B antibody negative and has previously had the 3 dose series: Two options
    1. 1. An option is to give one dose of hepatitis B and offer retesting of blood to see if their antibodies reach a sufficient level
    2. 2. Another option is to give them full series of 3 hepatitis B Immunizations
  • Dosing: If missed a dose: Start where left off. For example: If missed 2nd dose. Give it and then give 3rd dose in 5 months. If missed 3rd dose give and they’re done.
  • Twinrix hepatitis A and B combined vaccine:
    1. 1. Adults: 3 doses -- 0, 1, 6 months.
    2. 2. Children: 18 and under 2 doses
